Jobs Boost for Cambois    5 March, 2021

East Bedlington Parish Council welcome the news that an 8,000 jobs bonanza is heading to the region after the former Power Station site at Cambois was picked to become the UK’s first “gigaplant” to manufacture electric car batteries.
Britishvolt plans to invest £2.6bn in the site – the largest industrial investment in the North East since Nissan’s arrival in Sunderland in 1984 and one of the largest-ever UK investments.

Construction is poised to get under way next summer on the 230-acre site once occupied by Blyth Power Station.

Parish Council Chairman, John Batey, welcomed the news, he said “East Bedlington Parish Council have continued to engage with all sectors to improve infrastructure, local services, housing and employment opportunities. We particularly welcome this announcement as the level of investment will significantly contribute to the
sustainability of the region and supports our commitment to achieving a greener, cleaner community.”

County Councillor Jeff Gobin added “This announcement is a fantastic boost for Sleekburn ward and south east Northumberland as a whole. Having suffered high levels of unemployment for a number of years this investment is something for our work ready communities to celebrate.”

The Parish Council offers its congratulations to everyone who played a part in bringing the investment to our community and look forward to sharing updates with you.
